CLASSIFICATION : AMERICAN COCKROACH

We meet again on this post. In this time I will give you classification about cockroach. But first let me introduce the cockroach.

Cockroach is insects of the order Blattodea, which also includes termites. About 30 cockroach species out of 4,600 are associated with human habitats. About four species are well known as pests. four species are well known as pets is German cockroach, American cockroach, Australian cockroach, and Oriental cockroach. But, today I will give you classification about American cockroach because this species which we usually see.

There is classification American cockroach :

Kingdom : Animalia

Phylum : Arthropoda

Class : Insecta

Order : Blattodea

Family : Blattidae

Genus : Periplaneta

Species : Periplaneta americana (P. americana)

Life Cycle

American cockroach have three developmental stages: egg, nymph, and adult.

A. Egg

Females produce an egg case (ootheca) which protrudes from the tip of the abdomen. On average, females produce 9–10 oothecae, although they can sometimes produce as many as 90.

B. Nymph

After two days, the egg hatch into nymph. Nymph are white and then turn reddish-brown, with the posterior margins of the thoracic and abdominal segments being a darker color. Wings are not present in the nymphal stages and wing pads become noticeable in the third or fourth instar. Complete development from egg to adult is about 600 days.

C. Adult

Adult cockroaches can live up to an additional year, during which females produce an average of 150 young.


Unique

American cockroach generally live in moist areas, but can survive in dry areas if they have access to water. They prefer warm temperatures around 29 °C (84 °F) and do not tolerate cold temperatures. The odorous secretions produced by American cockroaches can alter the flavor of food.
